The exhibition of MACHIDA Kumi is now held in Kestnergesellschaft, Hannover from February 22 to May 12, 2008. Kestnergesellschaft (Kestner Association), known as the most beautiful exhibition space in Germany, introduces the most forefront of contemporary art in the scene from an international point of view, such as Walfgang Tillmans, Bettina Rheims. In summer of 2007, the exhibition “Made in Germany” was joint-held with Sprengel Museum of the same city, which was acclaimed internationally. Hannover is the city where Hannover Dada was born and the monumental “Dada” exhibition was held in the past, which is known for including Merzbau by Kurt Schwitters. The solo exhibition of MACHIDA Kumi is held as a part of the series of “die kunst japans” past- present- future.(Araki meets Hokusai / Kumi Machida) Machida was selected as a representative of next generation of Japanese art, and here, made her first solo exhibition in a museum. 32 works are exhibited, including the latest work “Snow Day” (2008). The catalog for this exhibition is elaborately edited and crafted, all through trilingual texts with German-English-Japanese.
