西村画廊では、2017年7月11日（火）から9月2日（土）まで、舟越桂、小林孝亘、三沢厚彦、押江千衣子、曽谷朝絵、指田菜穂子、町田久美の最新作によるグループ展「サマーショー2017」を開催いたします。
舟越桂は、長方形のガラスを頭部にまとった女性の半身像を出品します。知性を感じさせる青色のガラスは、すべらかな肌と意想外の調和を成し、この木彫に斬新な造形美を付与しています。あわせて、同彫刻のためのドローイングも出品します。
小林孝亘は、不可能なバランスで組まれた積木と、森の中に逆さまに置かれた不可解な大きさの壷を描いた、2点のペインティングを出品します。現実には起こりえない光景が日常的な実感を伴って成立した両作品の不思議なリアリティは、絵画のみが生み出しうる特有の感覚といえるかもしれません。
三沢厚彦は、2000年以来取り組んでいる、動物をシンボリックな姿形で彫像したANIMALSのシリーズから、初のモチーフとなる子鹿の彫刻を出品します。
押江千衣子は、従来の作風とは一線を画す抑えた色彩で、咲き散ったオオデマリの花びらをとらえたペインティングを出品します。
曽谷朝絵は、移り変わる日射しの姿を表現したペインティング“The Light”を出品します。重なり合う光の軌跡が過ぎ去った時間も感覚させる本作は、視覚的であると共に体感的であり、インスタレーション的要素を多分に含む曽谷の絵画の特色が見事に凝縮されています。
指田菜穂子は、十二星座をマッチラベル大の紙に描いた12点の連作と、日本文学をテーマにしたペインティング2点を出品します。ある年に発表された文学作品の登場人物を題名に入れた後者のシリーズは、「時間」や「時代」を表現しようとする試みで、その文学の内容ではなく、その文学が発表された年の世相が描かれています。
町田久美はペインティングを1点出品します。
Nishimura Gallery will hold a group exhibition “Summer Show 2017” from Tuesday, July 11 to Saturday, September 2, 2017. It will consist of the latest works by Katsura Funakoshi, Takanobu Kobayashi, Atsuhiko Misawa, Chieko Oshie, Asae Soya, Nahoko Sashida, and Kumi Machida.
Katsura Funakoshi will exhibit a half-length female figure with a rectangular glass head. The blue glass, which evokes intelligence, is in unexpected harmony with the smooth skin, giving the wood sculpture an innovative beauty of form. A drawing for this sculpture will be also exhibited.
Takanobu Kobayashi will exhibit two paintings, one depicting impossibly balanced blocks and the other depicting an impossibly large vessel placed upside down in a forest. The strange reality of these two works, in which scenes that could not happen in reality are realized with an everyday reality, may be said to be a peculiar sensation that only paintings can create.
Atsuhiko Misawa will exhibit a sculpture of a fawn, the first motif from his ANIMALS series, which he has been working on since 2000, in which animals are sculpted in symbolic forms.
Chieko Oshie will exhibit paintings that capture the petals of blooming and scattered osmanthus flowers in subdued colors that are a departure from her conventional style.
