1922 2月24日、英国、ロンドンに生まれる
1936 ウェストミンスター工科学院、セントマーチン美術学院で学ぶ
1938-40 ロンドン王立美術学院（ロイヤルアカデミースクールズ）で絵画を学ぶ
1951 ロンドンICA（Institute of Contemporary Arts）で自分が企画した初めてのエッチングの個展をひらく
1956 ホワイトチャペルアートギャラリー「これが明日だ」展のポスター図録として最初のポップコラージュ“一体何が今日の家庭をこれほどに変え、魅力あるものにしているのか“を制作
1963 マルセルデュシャンの「彼女の独身者たちによって裸にされた花嫁、さえも（大ガラス）」複製制作を開始
1966 テートギャラリー「デュシャン回顧展」に参加
1970 初の美術館回顧展をテートギャラリー企画によって行う
1973 グッゲンハイム美術館（ニューヨーク）で回顧展を開催
1978 バンクーバー美術館（カナダ）で回顧展を開催（版画）
1983 テートギャラリー企画の版画展「リチャード・ハミルトン：イメージとプロセス 1952-1982」を開催
1992 テートギャラリーで50年記念回顧展を開催
1993 ヴェニスビエンナーレにイギリス代表として出品
2008 高松宮殿下記念世界文化賞受賞
2011 9月13日、死去

 

Biography
1922 24 February: Born in London.
1936 Attended evening classes in art at Westminster School of Art, Vincent Square and St Martin’s School of Art.
1938-40 Student of painting at Royal Academy Schools.
1951 Devised and designed Growth and Form exhibition, ICA(Institute of Contemporary Arts), London.
1956 The exhibition “This is Tomorrow” was held Whitechapel Art Gallery, London. Showed “Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?” This collage was conceived as catalogue illustration ad poster for this exhibition.
1963 Reconstructed Duchamp’s “the Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even (The Large Glass).
1966 Retrospective of Duchamp, Tate Gallery.
1970 First museum retrospective, Tate Gallery.
1973 Retrospective, the Guggenheim Museum, New York.
1978 Retrospective, Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada.
1983 Exhibition “Image and Process”, Tate Gallery.
1992 Retrospective exhibitions, Tate Gallery.
1993 Represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale and was awarded the Golden Lion.
2008 Awarded The Premium Imperiale in Japan.
